GUM is an acronym of ” Gosudarstvjennyj Univjersalnyj Magazin”, which means “State Universal Shop” is located near to the Independence Square. It was opened in 1951. On three floors there are trading halls that are interconnected by a central three-flight parade and two side staircases. Today the building of the department store is a monument of architecture and urban planning of the twentieth century.
